Liliana Esquivel is General Counsel of the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission, the state agency that regulates the medical cannabis industry in Georgia. She received her undergraduate degree from Oglethorpe University. She received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, cum laude, from Georgia State University College of Law. Prior to joining the Commission, she spent several years working in fintech for GreenSky and Goldman Sachs, supporting their respective litigation teams. She was also an associate attorney at Hall, Booth, Smith, handling professional liability, premises liability, and other general liability cases.

Medical cannabis laws are rapidly changing both at the federal and state level. However, policies and sentiments surrounding medical cannabis have not evolved at the same pace. This conversation will highlight the legal changes that have occurred thus far and what questions are still left unanswered. It will also provide an overview of how the program functions in Georgia, how patients become registered, and key differences in Georgia’s program as opposed to other states.
